The New Shop I don't have any good photos of the inside yet, but here's a shot of the outside of the "long-awaited-but-worth-the-wait" new shop. My dad and I built about 90% of it ourselves from mid 2006 to mid 2007 when it was finally finished. The stone work all the way around the building is natural limestone from our property. When this was a farm many years ago, the fieldstones that were plowed up were deposited in a huge pile behind our house. I figured that a fitting permanent home for the stone was here on the new shop. The siding is local poplar cut at a sawmill just a couple miles from the house. The sign over the door was made by my daughter (6 at the time) that just says "Burt's New Shop." The shop has about 1200 sq. ft. inside, divided into four main rooms. I have an office, a leather working room, a main grinding & finishing room, and a separate wing (on the very left of the photo) where my forge and hot-working equipment is set up. |
