I have lately begun building knives with today's military in mind. Most of the knives marketed as military or combat knives are just plain stupid. They are designed to scare the enemy more than anything else, and I doubt they succeed even in that. A soldier, airman or Marine needs a knife to do what a knife was meant to do; that is to cut things. It needs to be strong enough to withstand a measure of abuse, it needs to be easy to sharpen and maintain, and the sheath should allow for flexible but secure mounting on anything from a belt to web gear. A true combat knife also needs to be affordable. I offer a 15% discount and priority attention (that means I'll make your knife before someone else's) to all active duty military. I am not going to grill you about proving it to me, though. If you have to pretend to impersonate one of our fighting men or women just to save a few bucks, then you've got bigger problems than me. Though a custom knife may seem expensive, because I'm a one-man outfit, at least you get everything you pay for rather than having to pay for a bunch of handlers and middle-men. One other note: The military discount applies only when the knife is bought by active duty military, not for active duty military. If you know a someone in active service, I think a fine handmade knife makes a wonderful and useful gift, but please expect to pay full price for it and save the discount for the underpaid men and women who deserve it most. Many of the knives I make for collectors can be modified for military use by cutting down on some of the frills, so if you see something else you like on this site that is not labeled as a military knife, please let me know and we can certainly work something out.
