| I exhibit at a few shows and demonstrate at a few hammer-ins each year. Since I am a full-time maker, I have to be selective about the events I attend, as they do take away from time in the shop. That means that I only attend events that are really first rate. If you've never been to a knife show or seen live demonstrations, I strongly suggest that you give it a whirl. It's a lot of fun! |

Introduction to Bladesmithing March 8-19,
2010 New England School of Metalwork, Auburn, Maine
This will be my first visit to the new England School of Metalwork. It's a well established school that has taught blacksmithing, bladesmithing and other related arts for years, and in 2010 they will offer their first bladesmithing classes in conjunction with the American Bladesmith Society. This is a two-week class, and one of the most revered master smiths in the world, Don Fogg (www.dfoggknives.com) will be teaching the first week and I will teach the second week. This will be an amazing chance to learn bladesmithing from one of the best teachers alive today (Don, not me!). For more info, go to www.newenglandschoolofmetalwork.com |

Introduction to Bladesmithing
October 18-29, 2010 Haywood Community College, Clyde, NC
I'll be teaching the first week of the two-week introduction to bladesmithing class, with my good friend Jason Knight teaching the second week. This class starts with the basics of forging and progresses through grinding, heat-treating, and deals with some aspects of finishing, handles, etc. The purpose of the class is that each student be able to leave with a working knowledge of what it takes to make a high-performance forged blade, and during the class, each student is expected to complete a test blade capable of passing the Journeyman Smith performance test. You'll have a lot of fun, I promise! For more information, follow this link. |
