Daggers throughout history have been personal protection pieces.  They were carried by knights and warriors as secondary weapons, and civilians used them as primary carry defensive weapons in a time before you could call 9-1-1.  

A dagger has never been a utilitarian tool.  It’s just sharp in too many places.  Since I don’t fancy myself the maker of weapons, my daggers are all art knives.  I don’t make “utility” daggers.  One attraction of a dagger as an art piece is the skill involved in making a totally symmetrical piece.
