The Bowie knife is the most American knife
design ever. On the
other hand, the number of knife styles that can be called a Bowie
knife is almost endless. Just
to make it easy, my definition of a Bowie knife is: Big knife,
double guard (an not always that).
Everything else is open for debate.
A true Bowie knife was a weapon for hand to hand combat.
My Bowies are primarily designed as tools or art knives.
However, one link to the fighting heritage of the Bowie knife
that is still maintained in my work is that all Bowies feel light
and fast in the hand, more like a short sword. Camp knives, on the other hand, are purely
designed as a hard use tool. I
would use the term “survival knife,” but you would think of
Rambo, and that’s not what we’re talking about.
Camp knives can be heavier because the function of a camp
knife is heavy chopping, clearing brush or building an emergency
shelter. It’s all the
knife you want when bad things happen in the sticks. All the blades pictured are examples of the
types of knives I make and should not be taken to be the extent of
what I do. All knives
are available in many different blade and handle shapes, materials
and price ranges. For pricing on a particular piece, or to talk
about a design not pictured here, contact
me. I
have separated the knives into different categories to make
browsing a little easier. Click a photo below to see more
pictures and descriptions. |
